Methodology, in 200 words
How we rank what you read.
Every tool, service, and resource in The Shortlist carries a Dreyfus Trust Score — a 0–100 credibility index we compute from a 47-point editorial review. The review is run by our 38-person desk of editors and analysts in Austin, Lisbon, and Singapore, and covers five weighted categories: product depth, customer outcomes, transparency of pricing, security posture, and the vendor’s own responsiveness to reader questions submitted through our portal.
Paid placements are real — we sell them, and we say so plainly. They appear in a clearly badged slot and are never folded into the editorial ranking. The distinction is audited annually by BDO and republished in full on our methodology page. A score is a score; a sponsorship is a sponsorship; the two are never mixed.
Every score is re-verified within 14 days of publication. If a vendor’s standing has shifted — a price change, a breach, a service incident — we update the score before the next digest goes out. You are reading a living ranking, not a snapshot.
