Editor's note

How we organize 52,417 listings — by the problem you have, not the vendor that paid us.

Most directories are organized the way vendors want them to be: alphabetical, pay-to-play, or padded with whatever a sales team submitted that quarter. A Great Portal is organized the way readers actually shop — by the problem they're trying to solve this week.

Every listing sits inside one of nine problem areas: CRM & Sales, Project & Work Management, Analytics & Data, Marketing & SEO, Design & Creative Tools, Agencies & Services, Dev & IT Infrastructure, Finance & Ops, and People, HR & Hiring. Each problem area is then broken into 4–12 sub-categories, then into editorial shortlists of 8–15 tools ranked by the Dreyfus Trust Score.

Two readers, two questions. A procurement lead at a 400-person SaaS company needs to compare five RFP software vendors before Friday — they jump straight to Agencies & Services, then RFP & Vendor Selection. A freelance designer wants a faster invoicing tool — they go to Finance & Ops, then Invoicing & Payments for Solopreneurs. Same index, two different doorways, both three clicks from a ranked shortlist.

We do not bury listings under alphabet, industry buzzwords, or "AI-powered" marketing copy. The taxonomy is flat, public, and rebuilt every quarter by the editorial team in Austin, Lisbon, and Singapore.

Every listing in this index passed a 47-point editorial review before it went live. We reject 62% of submissions — most often for thin funding, unverifiable claims, or a product that hasn't shipped. The 38% we publish we re-check every 14 days, and we publish that SLA so you can hold us to it.
