13:1: The properties have aluminium framed single glazed windows which have a sliding section.
13:2: In general the windows tend to be poorly fitted and are hard, if not impossible, to open and close.
13:3: In some cases there is a gap between the sliding section and the frame which allows heat to escape and also allow rain to enter.
13:4: The top vent-light of the windows are poorly designed and offers little security, fuller details are not listed here for security reasons.
13:5: Overall the windows provide very little protection against the cold. See appendix 12:1 and 15:6.
13:6: Problems of damp occur when the moisture in the air condenses onto the frames and the glass.
13:7: The poor quality windows also mean that it is hard, if not impossible, to insure the contents when the property is to be left empty on a regular basis. See appendix 6:1 to 6:3, 7:1 and 7:2. Fuller details are not listed here for security reasons.
13:8: There is no known way of improving the security of the present windows.
13:9: Windows frames are susceptible to black-mould because of the condensation. See appendix 18:4:B.
13:10: Staining of the walls and wallpaper occurs as does the peeling of the wall paper because of the condensation from the windows. See appendix 18:5:A.
13:11: A channel in the window frames them makes them extremely difficult to clean fully. See appendix 18:4:B.
13:12: Also see appendix 12:1 and 15:6 regarding heat loss through windows.
13:13: The construction is described in more detail in relation to the heat loss of the properties in the appendix, reference 3:1 to 3:6 and 4:1 to 4:10.
